To tackle Nigeria\u2019s persistent electricity challenges, the Federal Government has signed a landmark agreement worth over three hundred twenty eight million dollars with China Machinery Engineering Corporation.<\/p>\n

The deal is set to breathe new life into the nation\u2019s transmission network under the first phase of the Presidential Power Initiative.<\/p>\n

The ambitious project covers engineering, procurement, construction, and financing for extensive power infrastructure that spans over five hundred and forty kilometres across the country.<\/p>\n

Once completed, the upgraded and expanded network is expected to handle an impressive load capacity of seven thousand one hundred forty megawatts, a major step toward reducing the country\u2019s stranded generation capacity and improving electricity access nationwide.<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony, held in Abuja, saw the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, describe the agreement as a critical milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, strengthening the backbone of the nation\u2019s transmission system is vital to ensuring that power generated can actually reach homes, businesses, and industries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not just a contract, it is a commitment to energize Nigeria,\u201d Adelabu declared, adding that \u201cWith this project, we are addressing the power delivery gap head-on and creating a solid foundation for industrial growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The initiative, which will be managed by the FGN Power Company, focuses on both upgrading existing infrastructure and building new transmission lines across greenfield sites.<\/p>\n

This blend of modernization and expansion is designed to fast-track improvements in grid stability and efficiency.<\/p>\n

Adelabu stressed that the power sector reforms will not end with transmission upgrades.<\/p>\n

He hinted at a broader strategy aimed at ensuring the entire power value chain\u2014from generation to distribution\u2014operates seamlessly for the benefit of millions of Nigerians.<\/p>\n

As the nation grapples with frequent blackouts and unreliable electricity supply, this deal signals a renewed urgency by the federal government to light up Nigeria.<\/p>\n
