{"id":63933,"date":"2025-04-08T04:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T04:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=63933"},"modified":"2025-04-08T04:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-08T04:07:11","slug":"presidency-denies-sacking-inec-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/08\/presidency-denies-sacking-inec-chairman\/","title":{"rendered":"Presidency Denies Sacking INEC Chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Presidency has firmly dismissed widespread reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation flooded social media platforms early Monday, alleging that Yakubu had been removed and replaced by one Professor Bashiru Olamilekan in what was described as a major shakeup at the electoral commission.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, O\u2019tega Ogra, swiftly debunked the claims, urging Nigerians to ignore the false reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,\u201d Ogra clarified in a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed that any legitimate announcement regarding the leadership of INEC would only come through official channels, particularly the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny such announcement will come from the SGF\u2019s office or any other official source,\u201d he added, seeking to put an end to the growing misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>The rumour, which spread like wildfire across various online platforms, has been confirmed as baseless, with no official confirmation from either the Presidency or any federal authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Presidency has firmly dismissed widespread reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
