{"id":63815,"date":"2025-04-05T04:51:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-05T04:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=63815"},"modified":"2025-04-05T04:51:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T04:51:56","slug":"egbetokun-welcomes-au-envoy-earns-praise-for-peacekeeping-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/05\/egbetokun-welcomes-au-envoy-earns-praise-for-peacekeeping-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"Egbetokun Welcomes AU Envoy, Earns Praise for Peacekeeping Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has received high commendation from the African Union for the Nigeria Police Force&#8217;s outstanding role in regional peacekeeping efforts, particularly in Somalia.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, led a delegation to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on April 4, 2025, where he lauded the professionalism and dedication of Nigerian police officers deployed in mission areas.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by Mr. Samuel Victor Makwe of the Nigerian Embassy in Addis Ababa and other senior AU officials, the envoy described the Nigeria Police as a vital pillar in Africa\u2019s collective security architecture.<\/p>\n<p>He praised the NPF\u2019s contribution to stabilising Somalia and called for deeper collaboration to combat transnational crimes threatening the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Adeoye stressed the urgency of strengthening both local and international frameworks to tackle evolving security threats.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed that the AU is keen to continue its partnership with the NPF, noting that their efforts are essential in building a safer, more secure Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Responding, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged the NPF\u2019s unwavering support for AU-led peace initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged the sacrifices and challenges faced by officers on international assignments and assured that proactive steps are being taken to improve their welfare and operational effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to supporting the African Union\u2019s vision for peace and security,\u201d Egbetokun declared, emphasising that sustained collaboration is key to overcoming the region\u2019s security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The high-level engagement reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in policing and reinforces Nigeria\u2019s role as a cornerstone of peace and stability across the continent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has received high commendation from the African Union for the Nigeria Police Force&#8217;s outstanding role in regional peacekeeping efforts, particularly in Somalia.
