{"id":63789,"date":"2025-04-04T11:55:21","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T11:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=63789"},"modified":"2025-04-04T11:55:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T11:55:21","slug":"akpabio-fumes-over-plot-claims-demands-apology-from-senators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/04\/akpabio-fumes-over-plot-claims-demands-apology-from-senators\/","title":{"rendered":"Akpabio Fumes over Plot Claims, Demands Apology from Senators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senate President Godswill Akpabio has demanded a public apology and retraction from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Senator Elisha Abbo over what he described as false and damaging accusations of assassination plots and judicial manipulation.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio strongly denied allegations made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who during a public event in Kogi State on April 1, claimed the Senate President conspired with former Governor Yahaya Bello to take her life.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the claims as dangerous, provocative and without basis, Eyiboh said formal letters had been issued to both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Abbo, warning of imminent legal action should they fail to publicly retract their statements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Senate President is a firm believer in democracy, justice and national unity. These allegations are nothing but a coordinated attempt to smear his character and destabilize the Senate,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, has vowed not to retract her comments, insisting she only spoke her truth.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also addressed recent comments by former Senator Abbo, who alleged in an interview that Akpabio influenced court proceedings leading to his removal from the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Eyiboh dismissed the claim, recalling that Abbo had previously apologized in 2023 for similar accusations after admitting they were unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>Eyiboh added that Akpabio remains committed to his legislative duties and urged Nigerians and the international community to focus on the Senate\u2019s pursuit of democratic progress rather than what he termed orchestrated distractions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Senate President Godswill Akpabio has demanded a public apology and retraction from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Senator Elisha Abbo over what he described as false and damaging accusations of assassination plots and judicial manipulation.
