{"id":63728,"date":"2025-04-03T14:18:40","date_gmt":"2025-04-03T14:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=63728"},"modified":"2025-04-03T14:18:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T14:18:40","slug":"shuttlers-expands-fleet-with-20-cng-buses-to-cut-costs-emissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/03\/shuttlers-expands-fleet-with-20-cng-buses-to-cut-costs-emissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Shuttlers Expands Fleet with 20 CNG Buses to Cut Costs, Emissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigerian mobility startup Shuttlers has expanded its fleet with 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), powered buses, reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner and more cost-effective transport system.<\/p>\n<p>The company completed 1,484 trips with the new buses in the first quarter of 2025, a move its CEO and Co-founder, Damilola Olokesusi, described as a significant step toward sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was not just a business decision\u2014it was about making a real impact for us, our customers, and the environment,\u201d Olokesusi stated in a LinkedIn post.<\/p>\n<p>She highlighted that despite challenges such as limited infrastructure and cost comparisons to petrol, the shift to CNG had reduced transportation costs for riders by 29 percent while also lowering carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Following the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023 and a 200 percent hike in petrol prices, CNG has gained traction as a cheaper alternative, priced at \u20a6230 per litre and lasting longer than petrol.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government has also pushed for wider CNG adoption by introducing a payment plan for vehicle conversions, launching a CNG conversion app, and pledging to distribute 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles to youths in the transport sector.<\/p>\n<p>However, safety concerns remain, with reports of explosions linked to converted CNG vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing these fears, Olokesusi assured that Shuttlers\u2019 CNG canisters are fireproof and equipped with automatic extinguishers that activate instantly in case of fire.<\/p>\n<p>She also noted that regular safety inspections are carried out by the company\u2019s quality assessment team and pilots.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2016 to address Lagos\u2019 chaotic transportation system, Shuttlers has since expanded into other cities, secured $5.6 million in funding, and become a preferred choice for corporate commuters across Nigeria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Nigerian mobility startup Shuttlers has expanded its fleet with 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), powered buses, reinforcing its commitment to a cleaner and more cost-effective transport system.
