{"id":63636,"date":"2025-04-01T16:36:59","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T16:36:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=63636"},"modified":"2025-04-01T16:36:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T16:36:59","slug":"save-pensioners-from-poverty-apc-chieftain-urges-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/04\/01\/save-pensioners-from-poverty-apc-chieftain-urges-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"Save Pensioners from Poverty, APC Chieftain Urges Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Gbenga Adeniyi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Honorable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the hardships faced by pensioners under the contributory pension scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, Oyintiloye lamented the delayed and inadequate payment of retirement benefits, which he said has subjected many retirees to financial distress, sickness, and untimely death.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that corruption and poor funding within the pension system have worsened the plight of senior citizens who served the country diligently.<\/p>\n<p>The former lawmaker commended President Tinubu\u2019s approval of a seven hundred and fifty eight billion naira bond to settle sixteen years of pension arrears but insisted that more needs to be done.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the government to collaborate with the National Assembly to review the Pensions Reform Act of 2004, allowing retirees to withdraw their full savings upon retirement and granting them free healthcare from age sixty five.<\/p>\n<p>Oyintiloye warned that the suffering of pensioners could demoralize those still in service, pushing them toward corruption.<\/p>\n<p>He pleaded with Tinubu to take urgent action, stating that pensioners deserve a dignified life after years of service to the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Gbenga Adeniyi A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Honorable Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the hardships faced by pensioners under the contributory pension scheme.
