{"id":62775,"date":"2025-03-14T15:59:11","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T15:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62775"},"modified":"2025-03-14T15:59:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T15:59:11","slug":"appeal-court-halts-sanusis-reinstatement-as-emir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/14\/appeal-court-halts-sanusis-reinstatement-as-emir\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeal Court Halts Sanusi\u2019s Reinstatement as Emir"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Court of Appeal in Abuja has put a temporary stop to the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.<\/p>\n<p>A three-member panel, led by Justice Okon Abang, ruled on Friday, March 14, 2025, suspending the enforcement of a January 10 judgment that had overturned the nullification of Sanusi\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n<p>The appellate court\u2019s decision follows fresh applications seeking to delay the implementation of the lower court\u2019s ruling pending an appeal before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Abang stressed the need to maintain judicial fairness, noting that Sanusi\u2019s removal and reinstatement involve sensitive chieftaincy and state legislative matters.<\/p>\n<p>The court also ruled that a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against Sanusi should be transferred to the Kano State High Court and assigned to a judge without prior involvement in the case.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a fine of N500,000 was imposed on Aminu Baba-Dan\u2019Agundi in favor of the Kano State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>With this ruling, Sanusi\u2019s reinstatement remains on hold, pending further legal proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Court of Appeal in Abuja has put a temporary stop to the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
