{"id":62730,"date":"2025-03-13T19:02:59","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T19:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62730"},"modified":"2025-03-13T19:02:59","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T19:02:59","slug":"cbcn-commends-tinubus-administration-expresses-concern-over-youth-unemployment-insecurity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/13\/cbcn-commends-tinubus-administration-expresses-concern-over-youth-unemployment-insecurity\/","title":{"rendered":"CBCN Commends Tinubu&#8217;s Administration, Expresses Concern Over Youth Unemployment, Insecurity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration in addressing national challenges but has expressed deep concern over the rising youth unemployment, insecurity, and the economic hardship facing Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>In a communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end of their First Plenary Meeting of 2025, held at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja, the bishops commended the government for initiatives such as the rehabilitation of roads, student loan schemes, and the reinvigoration of the petroleum industry.<\/p>\n<p>They also appreciated the efforts of security operatives who continue to fight against criminal elements.<\/p>\n<p>However, the CBCN did not hold back in highlighting the harsh socio-economic realities Nigerians are facing.<\/p>\n<p>They lamented the high cost of essential goods, persistent kidnappings, and the mindless killings of innocent citizens, describing them as critical threats to the stability of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The bishops called for urgent and decisive actions to curb insecurity, urging the government to deploy high-end technology in intelligence gathering and security operations.<\/p>\n<p>They also stressed the need for job creation, particularly in the agriculture sector, to provide sustainable employment for young people and reduce restiveness.<\/p>\n<p>The communiqu\u00e9 further appealed to Nigerians to embrace unity and national integration, urging political, religious, and traditional leaders to promote peace and development.<\/p>\n<p>The bishops also encouraged citizens to participate actively in future elections despite past disappointments, calling for electoral reforms and greater transparency.<\/p>\n<p>Reaffirming the Catholic Church\u2019s stand against capital punishment, the bishops made a passionate appeal to President Tinubu to grant pardon to Mr. Sunday Jackson, whose conviction was recently upheld by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>As Nigeria navigates its challenges, the CBCN urged citizens to remain hopeful, emphasizing that with collective effort, a brighter and more prosperous nation is possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0 The Catholic Bishops\u2019 Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration in addressing national challenges but has expressed deep concern over the rising youth unemployment, insecurity, and the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
