{"id":62589,"date":"2025-03-11T13:13:24","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T13:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62589"},"modified":"2025-03-11T13:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T13:13:24","slug":"fuel-price-instability-threatens-oil-marketers-survival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/11\/fuel-price-instability-threatens-oil-marketers-survival\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel Price Instability Threatens Oil Marketers\u2019 Survival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oil marketers in Nigeria have raised alarm over the crippling impact of fluctuating fuel prices on their businesses, warning that the volatility could force many out of operation.<\/p>\n<p>Billy Gilly-Harris, President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), voiced these concerns during an interview on Channels Television\u2019s Business Morning.<\/p>\n<p>He described the unpredictable price swings of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as a major threat to financial stability in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The turbulence stems from a fierce price war between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).<\/p>\n<p>Dangote Refinery recently slashed its ex-depot price by \u20a665, causing petrol prices at its outlets to drop from around \u20a6925 to \u20a6860 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>NNPCL quickly responded by lowering its own retail prices, intensifying market uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Gilly-Harris warned that many oil marketers are facing mounting losses, making it difficult to sustain operations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are staring at the real possibility of businesses shutting down,&#8221; he said, urging regulators to create a pricing mechanism that balances affordability with business survival.<\/p>\n<p>With the industry at a crossroads, PETROAN is calling on the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and consumer protection agencies to intervene, ensuring a fair and stable market that supports both competition and sustainability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal Oil marketers in Nigeria have raised alarm over the crippling impact of fluctuating fuel prices on their businesses, warning that the volatility could force many out of operation.
