{"id":62373,"date":"2025-03-09T10:59:45","date_gmt":"2025-03-09T10:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62373"},"modified":"2025-03-09T10:59:45","modified_gmt":"2025-03-09T10:59:45","slug":"police-nabs-pos-scam-kingpin-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/09\/police-nabs-pos-scam-kingpin-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Nabs POS Scam Kingpin in Abuja\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A 32-year-old businessman, Ibrahim Mahmud, has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for allegedly masterminding a sophisticated Point of Sale (POS) fraud scheme, stealing \u20a61 million from an unsuspecting operator in Karshi, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Mahmud, a Civil Engineering graduate, was apprehended after months of investigation into a December incident where he swapped a POS machine at a retail shop owned by Odo Hilary.<\/p>\n<p>Using advanced hacking tools, he reportedly gained unauthorized access to Odo\u2019s financial records, transferring the stolen funds before the fraud was detected.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities traced half of the money to Mahmud\u2019s associate, Abdulsalam Abdulsamad, who has also been arrested for money laundering.<\/p>\n<p>Further forensic analysis revealed that Mahmud had used a notorious hacking tool, \u2018Ghost App,\u2019 to extract sensitive banking credentials from multiple POS devices across the city.<\/p>\n<p>Initially denying the allegations, Mahmud confessed after overwhelming evidence linked him to the crime.
