{"id":62279,"date":"2025-03-07T10:03:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-07T10:03:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62279"},"modified":"2025-03-07T10:03:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T10:03:48","slug":"edo-police-arrest-eight-over-site-engineers-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/07\/edo-police-arrest-eight-over-site-engineers-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Edo Police Arrest Eight Over Site Engineer\u2019s Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Edo State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to the alleged murder of Efe Ogbeide, a site engineer, amid a leadership crisis in Obazagbon Community, Benin.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu confirmed the arrests on Thursday, identifying Joshua Edo, Chairman of the community youths, as the prime suspect.<\/p>\n<p>Others arrested include Obayuwana Happy, Uhunwangho Everest, Chidera Umeh, Simon Benjamin, Odion Adagbonyin, Kennedy Ohro, and Osayi Adagbonyin.<\/p>\n<p>Yamu stated that operatives of the Iyekogba Division\u2019s Operation Rescue and Anti-Kidnapping Unit apprehended the suspects at various locations.<\/p>\n<p>He linked the crisis to disputes over the Chairman and Okiaghele (traditional leader) positions, which had already resulted in multiple deaths and the destruction of property worth millions.<\/p>\n<p>Condemning the violence, Commissioner of Police, Betty Isokpan, vowed that all culprits would face the full weight of the law, assuring residents that security agencies remain committed to their safety.<\/p>\n<p>The murder of Ogbeide, who was deaf, has sparked outrage, with civil society groups staging protests.<\/p>\n<p>The Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities (NAPVID) and the Edo State Civil Society Organisations condemned the brutal killing, calling for justice and better protection for persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>NAPVID\u2019s Executive Director, Melody Omosha, lamented that Ogbeide may not have heard warnings before the attack, describing him as a hardworking engineer who was unjustly killed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Edo State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to the alleged murder of Efe Ogbeide, a site engineer, amid a leadership crisis in Obazagbon Community, Benin.
