{"id":62110,"date":"2025-03-04T13:42:27","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T13:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=62110"},"modified":"2025-03-05T04:29:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T04:29:32","slug":"p-cngi-warns-transporters-against-overcharging-vows-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/03\/04\/p-cngi-warns-transporters-against-overcharging-vows-sanctions\/","title":{"rendered":"P-CNGI Moves to Cut Soaring Transport Fares"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGI) has vowed to enforce strict adherence to approved transport fare structures, warning operators against exploiting commuters.<\/p>\n<p>P-CNGI Programme Director and Chief Executive, Michael Oluwagbemi, issued the warning on Monday in response to reports of non-compliance by transport operators benefiting from the CNG conversion scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will sanction any operator violating the agreed fare structure,\u201d he stated, emphasizing that no transport union should extort its members to access the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The free CNG conversion initiative was introduced to ease fuel cost burdens by transitioning commercial vehicles from petrol and diesel to CNG.<\/p>\n<p>However, Oluwagbemi condemned some transporters for maintaining high fares despite benefiting from the cost-saving scheme.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure compliance, P-CNGI has launched the &#8217;10 for 10 Initiative&#8217;, deploying field agents to commercial transport parks in Abuja and Lagos to enroll drivers for free conversions.
