Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has revealed that none of the 31 requests for state creation have met the constitutional requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Kalu, who also serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House, made this disclosure on Friday during a two-day retreat for committee members in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n<p>The retreat, held from February 20 to 23, 2025, was organized in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre and supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO).<\/p>\n<p>While acknowledging that the requests reflect the aspirations of various communities, Kalu stated that they failed to meet the legal criteria necessary for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the committee has extended the submission deadline to March 5, 2025, with the possibility of further extension depending on the retreat\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ifeoluwa Odunayo The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, Rt.
