The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra state have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating the persistent issues of crude oil theft, illegal petroleum product dealings, and oil pipeline vandalism within the state. State Commandant, Edwin Osuala, emphasized this determination in Awka after the NSCDC received six suspects apprehended by the Nigerian Navy, Onitsha Outpost.<\/p>\n
According to NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Okadigbo Edwin, the suspects were handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation and prosecution. The individuals were caught in two separate incidents, transporting large quantities of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil in violation of regulations.<\/p>\n
In one instance on November 3, 2023, three suspects were arrested conveying 70 sack bags of petroleum products, estimated at about 3,500 liters of suspected adulterated Automotive Gas Oil. Another arrest on November 7, 2023, involved three individuals transporting 100 sack bags of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, estimated to be about 5,000 liters.<\/p>\n
Osuala revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the products were loaded at Osssamala Community in Ogbaru LGA and were en route to Upper Iweka before reaching their final destination. He noted that one Emeka Emeka, the alleged owner of the products, is currently at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.<\/p>\n
The NSCDC commander praised the Nigerian Navy for their collaboration, highlighting the synergy between the NSCDC and the Navy as instrumental in combating economic crimes. Osuala commended the successful handover of suspects and exhibits, affirming that a thorough investigation would be conducted, leading to possible prosecution.<\/p>\n
He issued a stern warning to economic saboteurs, urging them to steer clear of Anambra State. Osuala emphasized the activation of operational mechanisms throughout the state to make it inhospitable for criminal activities.
