The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, voiced concern over financial constraints hindering current development in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating that the government inherited an empty treasury upon assuming power a few months ago. Ribadu made these remarks at the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference 2023 in Abuja on Monday, acknowledging severe financial limitations but assuring the nation of the government’s dedication to maintaining a robust defense management and mechanism.<\/p>\n
Addressing attendees, Ribadu emphasized the administration’s commitment to overcoming budgetary challenges and ensuring the armed forces receive necessary support. He commended the armed forces for their dedication to addressing security challenges within and outside Nigeria, highlighting positive changes and improvements.<\/p>\n
While urging unity and support for the country’s security agencies, Ribadu expressed confidence that, with leadership resolve, the nation would overcome its current challenges. He encouraged citizens to come together and support the armed forces and other security agencies in their task of securing the country to maintain peace and stability.<\/p>\n
Despite the administration’s relatively short tenure of four to five months, Ribadu acknowledged positive transformations and encouraged continued support for the armed forces. He stated, “We want to encourage them, stand by them, and support them 100 percent, and hopefully, this country will be okay in a short time.”<\/p>\n
Ribadu also addressed security challenges within the African region, citing recent coups in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Gabon, and Guinea as sudden reversals of democratic fortunes. He emphasized the importance of defense diplomacy in pursuing strategic engagements with allies and partners to achieve national security objectives.<\/p>\n
In response, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj Gen Emmanuel Undiandeye, affirmed the agency’s determination to harness the capabilities of the defense attach\u00e9 system for the attainment of national security objectives.
