{"id":60982,"date":"2025-02-10T16:14:13","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T16:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60982"},"modified":"2025-02-10T16:14:13","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T16:14:13","slug":"court-indefinitely-adjourns-nnamdi-kanus-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/10\/court-indefinitely-adjourns-nnamdi-kanus-trial\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Indefinitely Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Njoku Chijioke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has indefinitely adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following a legal standoff between the prosecution, defense, and Kanu himself.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu\u2019s counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, called for Justice Binta Nyako\u2019s recusal, citing a loss of confidence in her impartiality.<\/p>\n<p>However, Justice Nyako explained that the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, had overturned her previous recusal and reassigned the case to her.<\/p>\n<p>She advised Kanu\u2019s legal team to file a formal application if they still sought her withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution, led by Adegboyega Awomolo, was prepared to proceed with witnesses, but Ejimakor maintained that Kanu would not stand trial before Justice Nyako.<\/p>\n<p>Kanu, who has been in State Security Service (SSS), custody since 2021, faces charges of terrorism and treasonable felony.<\/p>\n<p>The indefinite adjournment has raised concerns about further delays in resolving the case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Njoku Chijioke The Federal High Court in Abuja has indefinitely adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following a legal standoff between the prosecution, defense, and Kanu himself.
