{"id":60894,"date":"2025-02-09T16:00:11","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T16:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60894"},"modified":"2025-02-09T16:00:11","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T16:00:11","slug":"serap-sues-tinubu-over-alleged-%e2%82%a6167-billion-project-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/09\/serap-sues-tinubu-over-alleged-%e2%82%a6167-billion-project-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"SERAP Sues Tinubu Over Alleged \u20a6167 Billion Project Fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to prosecute contractors accused of misappropriating over \u20a6167 billion from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), without executing any projects.<\/p>\n<p>Filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos (FHC\/L\/MISC\/121\/2025), the suit also names Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as a respondent.<\/p>\n<p>SERAP seeks a court order compelling Tinubu to direct Fagbemi to take legal action against implicated companies and contractors.<\/p>\n<p>The organization further demands that Finance Minister Olawale Edun disclose the names of the contractors, project details, and funds disbursed, as outlined in the 2021 Auditor-General\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p>SERAP argues that the alleged fraud has deprived Nigerians of essential services and undermined public trust.<\/p>\n<p>Citing Nigeria\u2019s obligations under the UN Convention against Corruption, SERAP stresses that accountability is crucial to curbing financial mismanagement.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), alone accounted for \u20a6100 billion of the unexecuted contracts.<\/p>\n<p>A hearing date for the case is yet to be set.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to prosecute contractors accused of misappropriating over \u20a6167 billion from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), without executing any projects.
