{"id":60742,"date":"2025-02-07T13:55:28","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T13:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60742"},"modified":"2025-02-07T13:55:28","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T13:55:28","slug":"nnpcl-to-acquire-500-cng-trucks-to-enhance-fuel-transport-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/07\/nnpcl-to-acquire-500-cng-trucks-to-enhance-fuel-transport-safety\/","title":{"rendered":"NNPCL to Acquire 500 CNG Trucks to Enhance Fuel Transport Safety"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Retail plans to acquire 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered fuel trucks by the second quarter of the year to improve product transportation and enhance road safety.<\/p>\n<p>Each truck will be equipped with cameras and monitoring devices to detect driver fatigue and other safety concerns, as part of a broader effort by the federal government and industry stakeholders to reduce petroleum tanker accidents.<\/p>\n<p>At a virtual meeting of the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), Chairman Huub Stokman, who also serves as Managing Director of NNPCL Retail, expressed concern over the rising number of fuel tanker accidents.<\/p>\n<p>He attributed the problem to deteriorating roads and the use of aging trucks for product distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Stokman reaffirmed MEMAN\u2019s commitment to safety, emphasizing that the new trucks will be closely monitored to minimize accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, also noted that overloading, poor road conditions, and untrained drivers contribute to frequent tanker accidents.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed the government\u2019s determination to address these challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Secretary of the Depot Petroleum Products Marketing Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Adewale Olufemi, highlighted that some industry players have well-maintained trucks and collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to enforce safety measures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Retail plans to acquire 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered fuel trucks by the second quarter of the year to improve product transportation and enhance road safety.
