{"id":60460,"date":"2025-02-04T10:10:35","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T10:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60460"},"modified":"2025-02-04T10:10:35","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T10:10:35","slug":"igp-warns-officers-against-unauthorised-case-transfers-abuse-of-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/04\/igp-warns-officers-against-unauthorised-case-transfers-abuse-of-power\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP Warns Officers Against Unauthorised Case Transfers, Abuse of Power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jesusemen Oratokhai<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has warned officers against the unauthorised transfer of cases and misuse of police authority, stating that such actions undermine investigations and erode public trust.<\/p>\n<p>Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, emphasized the IGP\u2019s directive for transparency, professionalism, and accountability in police operations.<\/p>\n<p>Egbetokun cautioned against indiscriminate case transfers, stressing that cases should be investigated within the jurisdiction of the alleged offence unless approved by his office.<\/p>\n<p>He also condemned police interference in civil disputes, particularly land matters, warning officers to stay within their legal mandate.<\/p>\n<p>To curb harassment through frivolous petitions, the IGP mandated that all petitions include a declaration confirming their authenticity and withdrawal from other law enforcement agencies if previously submitted.
