{"id":60454,"date":"2025-02-04T10:05:01","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T10:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60454"},"modified":"2025-02-04T10:05:01","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T10:05:01","slug":"tension-in-esa-oke-as-chieftaincy-dispute-turns-deadly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/04\/tension-in-esa-oke-as-chieftaincy-dispute-turns-deadly\/","title":{"rendered":"Tension in Esa-Oke as Chieftaincy Dispute Turns Deadly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Gabriella Ogbu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four people have been killed and several others injured in Esa-Oke, Osun State, following an alleged attack by individuals dressed as police officers amid a chieftaincy dispute.<\/p>\n<p>The violence reportedly erupted over the appointment of Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido Ayegunle.<\/p>\n<p>The Esa-Oke Central Union accused the assailants of shooting residents, with viral footage showing victims covered in blood.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Osun State Police Command denied involvement, stating that seven officers were injured by unidentified attackers while en route to restore peace.<\/p>\n<p>During the chaos, three vehicles were set ablaze at the palace of the Owamiran of Esa-Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adediran.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Oladiti Awodiran, representing the Esa-Oke Central Union, condemned the government&#8217;s decision to appoint an &#8220;outsider&#8221; as monarch, calling it a violation of tradition.<\/p>\n<p>He also decried the arrest of local youths following the violence.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Opalola stated that officers were ambushed near Esa-Oke, encountering gunfire and roadblocks.
