{"id":60445,"date":"2025-02-04T09:50:54","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T09:50:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60445"},"modified":"2025-02-04T09:50:54","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T09:50:54","slug":"woman-bags-5-year-jail-term-for-human-trafficking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/04\/woman-bags-5-year-jail-term-for-human-trafficking\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman Bags 5-Year Jail Term for Human Trafficking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Emmanuel Ogbodo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Benedicta Usen, also known as Mrs. Carol Omomoh, to five years in prison for trafficking a young woman to Italy for prostitution.<\/p>\n<p>The sentence, delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Monday, was based on the prosecution\u2019s proven case beyond reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n<p>Omomoh received two separate sentences: two years and six months for certain charges and five years for others, all to run concurrently, beginning from February 3, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Ekwo condemned Omomoh as \u201ca barefaced liar\u201d and emphasized that her actions, which involved trafficking vulnerable women like Miss Cynthia Omoieke, warranted removal from society.<\/p>\n<p>Omomoh, charged in an eight-count case, conspired with accomplice Mrs. Oyomiya Lamidi (still at large) to recruit and transport Omoieke to Italy via the UK under false pretenses in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The court found her guilty of all charges related to violating the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration (TPPEA) Act, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Emmanuel Ogbodo A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Benedicta Usen, also known as Mrs. Carol Omomoh, to five years in prison for trafficking a young woman to Italy for prostitution.
