{"id":60442,"date":"2025-02-04T09:45:56","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T09:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=60442"},"modified":"2025-02-04T09:45:56","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T09:45:56","slug":"compensate-family-of-killed-driver-court-orders-inec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/02\/04\/compensate-family-of-killed-driver-court-orders-inec\/","title":{"rendered":"Compensate Family of Killed Driver, Court Orders INEC\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Abaire Olanlesi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to pay N1.12 billion in compensation to the family of Mike Madu, who was killed by an INEC driver in Imo State.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inyang Ekwo, delivering the judgment on Friday, directed that the amount be paid with a 10 percent annual interest until full settlement.<\/p>\n<p>The court also instructed INEC, its Chairman, Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, and other defendants to issue a letter of condolence to Madu&#8217;s family.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed by Augustine Madu on behalf of the Umudurugwu, Umuokwe, Awo-Omamma community in Oru-East Local Government Area, named INEC, its Chairman, the INEC Commissioner in Abuja, and INEC escort driver Hassan Abdul as defendants.
