{"id":59889,"date":"2025-01-24T14:45:17","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T14:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=59889"},"modified":"2025-01-24T14:45:17","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T14:45:17","slug":"fct-police-charge-16-suspected-vandals-target-scrap-yards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/24\/fct-police-charge-16-suspected-vandals-target-scrap-yards\/","title":{"rendered":"FCT Police Charge 16 Suspected Vandals, Target Scrap Yards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has arraigned 16 suspects accused of vandalizing public infrastructure and possessing stolen government property.<\/p>\n<p>Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed that the suspects appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The arrests follow a crackdown on scrap yards, known as \u201cpanteka,\u201d often linked to vandalism.<\/p>\n<p>Items recovered during the operation include manhole covers, armored cables, and streetlights\u2014critical components of public infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects pleaded &#8220;not guilty&#8221; and have been remanded at Keffi Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>The case has been adjourned to January 30, 2025.
