{"id":59726,"date":"2025-01-19T02:23:35","date_gmt":"2025-01-19T02:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=59726"},"modified":"2025-01-19T02:23:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-19T02:23:35","slug":"court-bars-frsc-from-impounding-vehicles-with-faded-number-plates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/19\/court-bars-frsc-from-impounding-vehicles-with-faded-number-plates\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Bars FRSC from Impounding Vehicles with Faded Number Plates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Our Correspondent\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), cannot impound vehicles with faded number plates or impose penalties on their owners.<\/p>\n<p>The decision followed a lawsuit filed by lawyer Chinwike Ezebube, who argued that as the sole designer and producer of vehicle number plates in Nigeria, the FRSC is responsible for their durability.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Akintayo Aluko agreed with the plaintiff, stating that the FRSC cannot criminalize the use of faded number plates or fine vehicle owners for the issue, which stems from the quality of the plates produced by the agency.<\/p>\n<p>The court also ruled that while vehicle owners must pay for replacements, the FRSC has no authority to impose fines or seize vehicles due to faded plates without a court order.<\/p>\n<p>Ezebube had sought the court\u2019s determination on whether the FRSC, as the sole producer, is responsible for the quality of the plates and if it could penalize citizens for faded plates caused by poor manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>The court upheld his claims, restraining the FRSC from declaring it an offense to drive with faded number plates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent\u00a0 The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), cannot impound vehicles with faded number plates or impose penalties on their owners.
