{"id":59670,"date":"2025-01-16T19:25:31","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T19:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=59670"},"modified":"2025-01-16T19:25:31","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T19:25:31","slug":"akpabio-2025-budget-must-prioritize-nigerians-welfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/16\/akpabio-2025-budget-must-prioritize-nigerians-welfare\/","title":{"rendered":"Akpabio: 2025 Budget Must Prioritize Nigerians\u2019 Welfare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called for the \u20a649.74 trillion 2025 Budget to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians, aligning with the Tinubu administration&#8217;s vision for a better future.<\/p>\n<p>He made the statement during the opening of the Stakeholders\u2019 Public Hearing on the 2025 Appropriation Bill on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The budget, titled &#8220;The Restoration Budget: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,&#8221; allocates \u20a64.91 trillion to defense, \u20a64.06 trillion to infrastructure, \u20a63.52 trillion to education, and \u20a62.48 trillion to healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Akpabio stressed the importance of ensuring that public funds are used to benefit ordinary Nigerians and promote their prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, we must ensure that this budget is not just a list of revenues and expenditures but a document that prioritizes the welfare of every Nigerian,\u201d Akpabio stated.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the need for collaboration between the National Assembly and the Executive to create a budget that is realistic, implementable, and reflects national priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Akpabio also highlighted the collective responsibility of Nigerians in the success of the budget, citing an African proverb: &#8220;The man who uses a spoon with his neighbor does not eat alone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He urged the public to demand transparency, embrace accountability, and ensure the effective implementation of the budget.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, justified the sectoral allocations, stating that \u20a64.91 trillion would strengthen national defense, \u20a64.06 trillion would drive infrastructure development, \u20a63.52 trillion would improve education, and \u20a62.48 trillion would enhance healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>These investments aim to tackle insecurity, foster economic growth, and improve social services.<\/p>\n<p>Adeola assured stakeholders that the National Assembly would ensure adherence to the budget&#8217;s economic assumptions, including an exchange rate of \u20a61,500 to $1, a crude oil benchmark of $75, and a production target of 2.06 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation is projected to decline to 15% in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate&#8217;s commitment to transparency and accountability in the budget\u2019s execution was emphasized, with the Appropriations Committee set to engage relevant agencies to evaluate and monitor the implementation of these key economic assumptions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ade Iyamoye\u00a0 Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called for the \u20a649.74 trillion 2025 Budget to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians, aligning with the Tinubu administration&#8217;s vision for a better future.
