{"id":59201,"date":"2025-01-08T13:22:51","date_gmt":"2025-01-08T13:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=59201"},"modified":"2025-01-09T04:52:46","modified_gmt":"2025-01-09T04:52:46","slug":"34-terrorists-and-6-troops-killed-in-fierce-encounter-in-borno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/08\/34-terrorists-and-6-troops-killed-in-fierce-encounter-in-borno\/","title":{"rendered":"34 Terrorists, 6 Troops Killed in Fierce Encounter in Borno"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Gabriella Ogbu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Defence Headquarters confirmed the deaths of 34 terrorists and six troops in a deadly clash in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, on January 4, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The attack, carried out by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), militants, was a retaliation against recent operations that killed several of their commanders and combatants.<\/p>\n<p>The terrorists, on motorcycles and gun trucks, initially attempted an ambush but were met with strong resistance from a returning patrol team.<\/p>\n<p>A reinforcement unit, including the Civilian Joint Task Force, vigilantes, and hybrid forces, quickly arrived and overwhelmed the insurgents, despite an improvised explosive device (IED), injuring a Vigilante Commander.<\/p>\n<p>The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided additional support, conducting airstrikes on the retreating militants.<\/p>\n<p>The operation resulted in 34 terrorist fatalities and the recovery of significant weapons, including 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>However, six soldiers lost their lives during the engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The identities of the fallen troops are withheld pending the notification of their next of kin.<\/p>\n<p>The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to defeating terrorism and assured the public of the Armed Forces\u2019 determination in this ongoing battle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Gabriella Ogbu The Defence Headquarters confirmed the deaths of 34 terrorists and six troops in a deadly clash in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, on January 4, 2025.
