{"id":58999,"date":"2025-01-06T11:06:59","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T11:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58999"},"modified":"2025-01-06T11:06:59","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T11:06:59","slug":"nigerian-socialite-cash-madam-dies-at-89","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/06\/nigerian-socialite-cash-madam-dies-at-89\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian Socialite &#8216;Cash Madam&#8217; Dies at 89"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Renowned Nigerian socialite Adebisi Edionseri, popularly known as Cash Madam, has passed away at the age of 89.<\/p>\n<p>Her son, Adebayo Adebowale, confirmed in a statement on behalf of the family that she died on Sunday after a brief illness.<\/p>\n<p>A prominent figure in Nigeria\u2019s social scene, Cash Madam was celebrated for her fashion, entrepreneurial success, and flamboyant lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Juju legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey gave her the nickname &#8220;Cash Madam&#8221; in the 1980s, recognizing her financial influence.<\/p>\n<p>She had been a millionaire since the late 1970s and was widely known for her generosity to musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Fuji icon Sikiru Ayinde Barrister dedicated a 47-minute track, Cash Madam, to her in his 2004 album, Reality.<\/p>\n<p>Eulogizing his mother, Adebowale described her as a woman of great business acumen, recalling how she would transport large sums of money\u2014coins and notes\u2014to Barclays Bank (now Union Bank), where she was allocated a private room and a team of cashiers to handle her transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Her funeral, conducted according to Islamic rites, will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday at her residence in GRA, Ibara, Abeokuta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer life was a shining example of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe touched many lives through her wisdom, kindness, and dedication to family and community, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations,\u201d her son said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Renowned Nigerian socialite Adebisi Edionseri, popularly known as Cash Madam, has passed away at the age of 89.
