{"id":58977,"date":"2025-01-05T18:24:23","date_gmt":"2025-01-05T18:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58977"},"modified":"2025-01-05T18:24:23","modified_gmt":"2025-01-05T18:24:23","slug":"police-rescues-4-kidnap-victims-arrest-17-for-alleged-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/05\/police-rescues-4-kidnap-victims-arrest-17-for-alleged-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Rescues 4 Kidnap Victims, Arrest 17 for Alleged Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Adenike Lawal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Imo State Police Command has rescued four kidnapped victims in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area, following a successful operation on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, officers engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, neutralizing two suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 21 rounds of live ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a separate operation, the Ebonyi State Police Command arrested 17 suspects in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area, for the alleged murder of Uromchi Okorocha.<\/p>\n<p>Local youths accused Okorocha of witchcraft and, instead of reporting him to authorities, took the law into their own hands, killing and burning his body before police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun condemned the act of mob justice and urged citizens to report suspected crimes to law enforcement rather than resorting to violence.<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed the police force\u2019s commitment to ensuring public safety and justice while encouraging stronger community collaboration with security agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal The Imo State Police Command has rescued four kidnapped victims in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area, following a successful operation on Saturday.
