{"id":58848,"date":"2025-01-03T03:02:04","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T03:02:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58848"},"modified":"2025-01-03T03:02:04","modified_gmt":"2025-01-03T03:02:04","slug":"ncaa-warns-airlines-over-flight-delays-threatens-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2025\/01\/03\/ncaa-warns-airlines-over-flight-delays-threatens-sanctions\/","title":{"rendered":"NCAA Warns Airlines Over Flight Delays, Threatens Sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has expressed concern over the increasing flight delays and cancellations by Nigerian airlines, warning of strict sanctions for non-compliance with regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in Lagos, NCAA Director General Captain Chris Najomo disclosed that nearly half of the 10,804 domestic flights recorded between September and October 2024 were either delayed or canceled.<\/p>\n<p>He attributed the disruptions to operational mismanagement, alongside unavoidable factors like technical issues, weather, and infrastructural challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Najomo emphasized airlines\u2019 responsibility to handle disruptions professionally, ensure passengers\u2019 rights are respected, and provide compensation where applicable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompliance with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs), on consumer protection is mandatory, and penalties for violations will be enforced immediately,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>NCAA Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, detailed penalties, including $170 fines for international flights and \u20a610,000 for domestic flights in cases of delayed luggage.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA has also initiated passenger awareness campaigns and urged airlines to enhance transparency, operational efficiency, and emergency response systems to minimize service disruptions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Alexis Uchendu The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has expressed concern over the increasing flight delays and cancellations by Nigerian airlines, warning of strict sanctions for non-compliance with regulations.
