Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has condemned former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia and ex-PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus for questioning his contributions to Rivers State during his tenure as FCT Minister.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the PDP end-of-year thanksgiving in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area, Wike dismissed Omehia’s allegations as baseless and called Secondus\u2019 comments hypocritical.<\/p>\n
“I overheard Celestine Omehia asking what I\u2019ve done for Rivers State as Minister. Let me educate him: I am the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, not Rivers State,\u201d Wike said.<\/p>\n
He referenced his past contributions as Minister of Education, including the establishment of the Faculty of Law at the University of Port Harcourt, grants to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, and renovations at Federal Government College, Port Harcourt.<\/p>\n
Wike also criticized Secondus, accusing him of inconsistency and attempting to impose his cousin, Tele Ikuru, as Rivers’ governor.<\/p>\n
“Secondus was against Governor Siminalayi Fubara\u2019s emergence, but now claims to be the governor\u2019s friend while calling me an enemy.<\/p>\n
“I removed him as PDP chairman for his actions,” Wike said.<\/p>\n
The Minister also highlighted his success in securing federal appointments for Rivers State under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.<\/p>\n
“Rivers has the highest number of political appointees in Tinubu\u2019s government. No governor in Rivers’ history has achieved this,” he claimed.<\/p>\n
Wike pointed out that many of the current projects in Rivers, including the Ring Road, were initiated and funded during his tenure as governor.<\/p>\n
“I paid 50% of the funding to ensure continuity. It\u2019s disappointing to see some projects canceled,” he added.<\/p>\n
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudum Nwuche, who hosted the event, praised Wike for his leadership and development efforts.<\/p>\n
“Wike\u2019s achievements in Rivers were no fluke. Abuja is now being transformed into a world-class city under his leadership,” Nwuche said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
