Abdulrahman Mohammed detailed the department\u2019s response to disasters, including floods, building collapses, fire outbreaks, and road accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed noted that 75 individuals were rescued from flood incidents, although one fatality occurred in Angwan Hakimi, Orozo.<\/p>\n<p>In cases of building collapses, 105 people were rescued, with four fatalities reported in Guzape District, Kubwa, and Sabon Lugbe.<\/p>\n<p>For fire incidents, the department successfully saved 1,230 lives without any fatalities, including major incidents at Old Karu Market and a fitness center in Gwarinpa.<\/p>\n<p>He also addressed the FEMA&#8217;s response to an earth tremor affecting over 2,000 residents in Mpape, Katampe, and Maitama Extension, where 89 individuals were rescued and three fatalities were recorded.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, FEMA personnel successfully intervened in an attempted suicide atop a telecommunications mast in Katampe Hill, collaborating with police to ensure the individual&#8217;s safety.<\/p>\n<p>Following the recent palliative stampede in Maitama, Mohammed confirmed that all hospitalized victims have now been discharged.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Mohammed emphasized FEMA&#8217;s commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and prevention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We plan to establish efficient channels for information sharing and secure data storage systems, while increasing our focus on risk assessment for the city center to mitigate potential disasters,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA has also launched its Ember Month Campaign, titled &#8220;Operation Eagle Eye,&#8221; in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps, aimed at promoting road safety awareness during the festive season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Emmanuel Ogbodo The department of FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has reported rescuing approximately 3,500 individuals from various emergencies in Abuja throughout 2024.
