The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of 35-year-old Jimoh Abdulquadri, who died in detention on December 20, 2024.<\/p>\n

Jimoh, a resident of Balogun Fulani community in Ilorin, was arrested on December 19 for allegedly owing N220,000 to a man identified as Peter.<\/p>\n

His family claims he was tortured in custody, resulting in his death.<\/p>\n

Relatives, including his mother, Mrs. Adijat Moriyike, and elder brother Ismail, allege Jimoh was beaten by police officers, with reports of his head being struck with a hard object.<\/p>\n

They said his body showed signs of trauma, including a bleeding nose.<\/p>\n

The family stated that Jimoh was in the process of settling the debt before his arrest and had N350,000 and his phone with him at the time of detention.<\/p>\n

They were informed the following morning that he was in critical condition and later found his body in the mortuary of Ilorin General Hospital.<\/p>\n

They refuted police claims that he committed suicide, arguing the cell conditions made it implausible.<\/p>\n

The family also alleged a possible cover-up, citing a connection between the creditor and a police officer, which they believe influenced Jimoh’s treatment.<\/p>\n

Kwara State Police PRO DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the incident, stating that a discreet investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances of the death.<\/p>\n
