{"id":58242,"date":"2024-12-20T11:24:26","date_gmt":"2024-12-20T11:24:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58242"},"modified":"2024-12-20T11:24:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-20T11:24:26","slug":"abuja-plunged-into-darkness-as-vandals-destroy-shiroro-katampe-transmission-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/20\/abuja-plunged-into-darkness-as-vandals-destroy-shiroro-katampe-transmission-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Plunged Into Darkness as Vandals Destroy Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been thrown into darkness following the destruction of the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line by vandals.<\/p>\n<p>The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday night, noting that it occurred around 11:43 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The damage disrupted power supply from the affected line on the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>Mbah disclosed that a TCN patrol team discovered that vandals had stolen parts of the conductor between towers T216 and T218.<\/p>\n<p>Maintenance crews have been mobilized to the site to replace the damaged components. While work is ongoing, she could not specify the exact time for the restoration of bulk power supply.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), issued notices informing residents of power outages in several areas of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Affected locations include the CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, Bank of Industry, Army War College, New Chelsea Hotel, Area 10, and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>Other affected streets include Katsina Ala, Kila Close, Rudolf Close, La Street, Rima Street, Ekororo Street, Sand Link Street, Olufemi, and Laih Street.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to restore power are ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been thrown into darkness following the destruction of the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line by vandals.
