{"id":58227,"date":"2024-12-19T17:17:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-19T17:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58227"},"modified":"2024-12-19T17:17:31","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T17:17:31","slug":"abuja-communities-accuse-naf-of-seizing-farmlands-without-compensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/19\/abuja-communities-accuse-naf-of-seizing-farmlands-without-compensation\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Communities Accuse NAF of Seizing Farmlands Without Compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Idowu Patrick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residents of Guita and Kuzhako, along the Kubwa-Bwari old road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have accused the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), of taking over their farmlands without compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The affected land, approximately 40 hectares, was reportedly acquired by the NAF during the wet farming season eight years ago, with crops destroyed in the process.<\/p>\n<p>About 200 farmers from the two communities and neighboring areas have since been displaced, with their lands converted into barracks.<\/p>\n<p>Malam Mathias Abubakar Ibrahim, the chief of Guita community, urged the government to compensate the affected farmers to restore their livelihoods.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Adamu Luka, the Madaki of Kuzhako, noted that 60 farmers in his community alone have been impacted.<\/p>\n<p>He alleged that a proposed compensation plan, based on the number of economic trees on the farmlands, has not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the only land we know. Despite reporting the matter to the Bwari Area Council and the FCT minister\u2019s office, no positive response has been received,\u201d said Luka.<\/p>\n<p>The communities, which rely heavily on farming and hunting, also face challenges due to poor infrastructure, including lack of motorable roads, potable water, and healthcare facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of Guita revealed that the first primary school in the area was built through communal effort, while another is being constructed with World Bank support.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the area has experienced incidents of kidnapping, though security has reportedly improved.
