{"id":58064,"date":"2024-12-16T10:44:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T10:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58064"},"modified":"2024-12-16T12:50:46","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T12:50:46","slug":"oyo-receives-20-cng-powered-buses-to-boost-public-transport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/16\/oyo-receives-20-cng-powered-buses-to-boost-public-transport\/","title":{"rendered":"Oyo Receives 20 CNG-Powered Buses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Oyo State government has received 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses from the Federal Government to enhance public transportation.<br \/>\nThe buses were handed over on September 2, 2024, at the Pacesetter Transport Service (PTS), office in Ibadan.<br \/>\nMichael Oluwagbemi, CEO of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi), highlighted the program&#8217;s aim to mitigate fuel subsidy removal effects and promote cleaner, safer, and cost-effective transportation.<br \/>\nThe buses, integrated into PTS operations, will support mass transit services across the state.<br \/>\nThe initiative, launched on September 15, 2024, also includes free conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to CNG, with over 70 vehicles already converted.<br \/>\nHowever, stakeholders, including Alhaji Ademola Adeoye of the Park Management System, called for more conversion centers to meet demand.<br \/>\nPrivate car owners like Dr. Sowole Jayieola have praised CNG for its economic benefits, despite high conversion costs.<br \/>\nDr. Jayieola noted a significant drop in fuel expenses, from \u20a6250,000 to \u20a626,000 monthly, after switching to CNG.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, the Oyo State Nigeria Labour Congress awaits delivery of 10 CNG-powered buses promised by the Federal Government, which will be distributed to other states in the region.<br \/>\nThe initiative underscores efforts to modernize Nigeria\u2019s transport sector while reducing environmental impact.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu The Oyo State government has received 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses from the Federal Government to enhance public transportation.
