{"id":58031,"date":"2024-12-15T07:17:17","date_gmt":"2024-12-15T07:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=58031"},"modified":"2024-12-15T07:17:17","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T07:17:17","slug":"fg-to-establish-cng-conversion-centers-for-100000-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/15\/fg-to-establish-cng-conversion-centers-for-100000-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"FG to Establish CNG Conversion Centers for 100,000 Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), has announced plans to convert 100,000 vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) within the next 18 months.<br \/>\nThis initiative is part of Nigeria\u2019s broader strategy to promote cleaner energy solutions and reduce fuel costs for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>According to SMEDAN\u2019s Director-General, Charles Odii, the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu\u2019s directive to have at least one million CNG-powered vehicles on Nigerian roads by 2027.<br \/>\nSpeaking on Saturday, Odii revealed that SMEDAN, in partnership with Rolling Energy Ltd. and the Presidential Committee on the CNG Initiative, aims to handle 10% of this target through a dedicated conversion center.<br \/>\nConversion Center Capacity and Economic Benefits<br \/>\nThe SMEDAN center will have the capacity to convert up to nine vehicles daily and will also serve as a training hub for young Nigerians in CNG conversion, maintenance, and repair.<br \/>\nOdii described the initiative as a significant boost for SMEs, providing a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuel.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a more affordable and sustainable way to run businesses.<br \/>\n\u201cThe President\u2019s mandate is clear: one million CNG vehicles by 2027. SMEDAN is committed to playing a pivotal role in this transition,\u201d Odii said.<br \/>\nHe also highlighted the potential for job creation and entrepreneurship within Nigeria\u2019s growing gas sector.<br \/>\nMubarak Danbatta, CEO of Rolling Energy Ltd., emphasized the safety of the conversion process, which adheres to international standards.<br \/>\nHe reassured Nigerians about the reliability of the high-pressure cylinders used, noting that safety protocols are strictly enforced to prevent explosions.<br \/>\nDanbatta stated, \u201cWith proper adherence to standards, the narrative of CNG explosions is unfounded.
