{"id":57933,"date":"2024-12-13T10:28:27","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T10:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57933"},"modified":"2024-12-13T10:28:27","modified_gmt":"2024-12-13T10:28:27","slug":"governors-endorse-creation-of-state-police-nec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/13\/governors-endorse-creation-of-state-police-nec\/","title":{"rendered":"Governors Endorse Creation of State Police \u2013NEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State announced that all 36 states have endorsed the creation of state police, following submissions made to the National Economic Council (NEC).<br \/>\nHe disclosed this after the 147th NEC meeting chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima in Abuja.<br \/>\nSani highlighted the increasing insecurity across states and the insufficient number of security personnel as reasons for the widespread support.<br \/>\nHe described state police as a necessary step to address ungoverned territories and security challenges nationwide.<br \/>\n\u201cVirtually every state has security challenges, and most of us agree that establishing state police is the way forward,\u201d Sani said.<br \/>\nDiscussions on state police were, however, postponed to the next NEC meeting in January 2025 to allow for further stakeholder engagements and a comprehensive report from the NEC secretariat.<br \/>\nThe NEC had earlier mandated Kwara, Adamawa, Kebbi, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to submit their positions on state police by November 28, following submissions from 33 other states.<br \/>\nThe consolidated report will guide the council&#8217;s next deliberation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State announced that all 36 states have endorsed the creation of state police, following submissions made to the National Economic Council (NEC).
