{"id":57781,"date":"2024-12-08T12:52:44","date_gmt":"2024-12-08T12:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57781"},"modified":"2024-12-08T12:52:44","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T12:52:44","slug":"nsib-probes-abuja-accra-flight-incident-after-dual-engine-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/08\/nsib-probes-abuja-accra-flight-incident-after-dual-engine-failure\/","title":{"rendered":"NSIB Probes Abuja-Accra Flight Incident After Dual Engine Failure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Emmanuel Ogbodo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has commenced an in-depth investigation into a grave midair incident involving a Fly Bird HS 125 aircraft (registration 5N-KAL), which suffered dual engine failure during a flight from Abuja to Accra on December 6, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft, with three crew members and one passenger onboard, departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, bound for Kotoka International Airport, Accra.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble began when Engine No. 2 malfunctioned as the plane climbed through flight level 240, approximately 25 nautical miles southwest of VOR station VONUK at 17:54 UTC.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, the crew requested to return to Abuja and began their descent.<\/p>\n<p>However, Engine No. 1 failed at about 5,000 feet as the aircraft neared Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>A Mayday alert was issued, but the crew managed an emergency landing at 18:16 UTC, averting a disaster.
