{"id":57607,"date":"2024-12-03T14:17:47","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T14:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57607"},"modified":"2024-12-03T14:17:47","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T14:17:47","slug":"police-arrests-dele-farotimi-over-defamation-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/03\/police-arrests-dele-farotimi-over-defamation-allegations\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Arrests Dele Farotimi Over Defamation Allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jesusemen Oratokhai<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prominent human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force following a defamation complaint allegedly filed by Tony Elumelu, the CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA).<\/p>\n<p>Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and activist, revealed the arrest on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sowore, Elumelu accused Farotimi of defamation in a petition to the police, which led to the arrest.<\/p>\n<p>Sowore condemned the action, calling it an abuse of police authority for personal disputes.<\/p>\n<p>He stated, \u201cI just learned that Dele Farotimi was arrested by the Nigerian Police over a petition by Tony Elumelu of UBA Group alleging Dele defamed him.<\/p>\n<p>The police must stop allowing themselves to be used to settle private scores.
