{"id":57538,"date":"2024-12-03T09:59:48","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T09:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57538"},"modified":"2024-12-03T09:59:48","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T09:59:48","slug":"im-not-against-bats-administration-but-zulum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/03\/im-not-against-bats-administration-but-zulum\/","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019m Not Against BAT\u2019s Administration, But\u2026 \u2013 Zulum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has called for a broader stakeholder consultation on the proposed tax reform bill currently before the National Assembly, cautioning against hasty implementation without addressing key concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by his Special Adviser, Dauda Iliya, Zulum emphasized the need for dialogue to dispel misconceptions and ensure the bill reflects fairness and inclusivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsultation is a cardinal principle in any democratic society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must carefully review the bill, understand its nuances, and address contentious areas before implementation,\u201d Zulum said.<\/p>\n<p>Zulum raised concerns about the proposed allocation of 60% of Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue based on derivation, warning that it could disproportionately favor states like Lagos and Rivers while marginalizing others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe VAT provision, as currently proposed, suggests that only a few states will benefit significantly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is why we must not rush the process.
