{"id":57527,"date":"2024-12-03T09:46:43","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T09:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57527"},"modified":"2024-12-03T09:46:43","modified_gmt":"2024-12-03T09:46:43","slug":"atcon-to-honour-obaseki-for-transforming-edos-digital-landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/03\/atcon-to-honour-obaseki-for-transforming-edos-digital-landscape\/","title":{"rendered":"ATCON to Honour Obaseki for Transforming Edo\u2019s Digital Landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), will honor former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for his groundbreaking reforms in the state\u2019s digital and technology sectors.<\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony, marking ATCON\u2019s 31st anniversary, is scheduled for December 6, 2024, in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>According to ATCON, Obaseki will be recognized as the Digital Governor of the Year for his visionary leadership, which placed Edo State at the forefront of digital innovation in governance.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Emoekpere, President of ATCON, highlighted the former governor\u2019s achievements, including the launch of Edo\u2019s digital policy and the establishment of Nigeria\u2019s first regional government-owned data center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Obaseki\u2019s administration digitized Edo\u2019s public service, transitioning from an outdated analogue system to a seamless, fully digitized operation with all local government areas connected via fibre optics,\u201d Emoekpere stated.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to Obaseki, ATCON applauded his administration\u2019s achievements, citing initiatives such as the e-governance platform, which streamlined key government processes like e-protocols, procurement, education, healthcare, and petitions.<\/p>\n<p>The platform, they noted, enhanced transparency and encouraged public participation in governance.<\/p>\n<p>Other innovations highlighted include the 3-tier data center, automation of public services, digital skills training, technology integration in agriculture, and the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST), programme.<\/p>\n<p>These reforms, ATCON said, have set a benchmark for other states to emulate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour visionary leadership has transformed Edo State into a digitally advanced society, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents,\u201d ATCON said, emphasizing Obaseki\u2019s lasting legacy in digital governance.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki\u2019s media adviser, criticized Edo\u2019s current governor, Monday Okpebholo, for shutting down the e-governance platform.<\/p>\n<p>Reports on November 25 indicated that Okpebholo ordered a return to paper-based communication within the civil service, a move Osagie described as regressive and counterproductive to the digital strides achieved during Obaseki\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Alexis Uchendu The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), will honor former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for his groundbreaking reforms in the state\u2019s digital and technology sectors.
