{"id":57510,"date":"2024-12-02T17:37:26","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T17:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57510"},"modified":"2024-12-02T17:37:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T17:37:26","slug":"edo-governor-swears-in-three-njc-recommended-judges-previously-rejected-by-obaseki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/12\/02\/edo-governor-swears-in-three-njc-recommended-judges-previously-rejected-by-obaseki\/","title":{"rendered":"Edo Governor Swears in Three NJC-Recommended Judges Previously Rejected by Obaseki"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has sworn in three judges recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC), rectifying a delay in their appointment under the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.<\/p>\n<p>The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the Government House in Benin City.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Okpebholo underscored his administration&#8217;s commitment to strengthening the judiciary and upholding the doctrine of Separation of Powers.<\/p>\n<p>He remarked: \u201cIn June 2023, the NJC recommended eight individuals for appointments as judges of the Edo State High Court.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While five were sworn in by the past administration, three were excluded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today, we are privileged to address that omission and ensure justice prevails,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The newly sworn-in judges\u2014Justice Ojo Maureen Osa, Justice Okundamiya Godwin Jeff, and Justice Edoghogho Eboigbe\u2014were urged to dispense justice without bias and protect the rights of all citizens.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Okpebholo reiterated his stance against marginalization, adding: \u201cNo individual should face discrimination or hatred due to personal reasons or the absence of political godfathers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Justice Ojo Maureen Osa expressed gratitude for the opportunity and vowed to uphold justice. She assured: \u201cWe will deliver justice without fear or favor, contributing to a fair and effective judiciary.
