{"id":57381,"date":"2024-11-30T07:51:25","date_gmt":"2024-11-30T07:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57381"},"modified":"2024-11-30T09:49:56","modified_gmt":"2024-11-30T09:49:56","slug":"100-women-traders-receive-%e2%82%a610-million-empowerment-grant-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/30\/100-women-traders-receive-%e2%82%a610-million-empowerment-grant-in-abuja\/","title":{"rendered":"100 Women Traders Receive \u20a610 Million Empowerment Grant in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Frugal Empowerment Foundation has disbursed \u20a610 million in grants to 100 female petty traders in Abuja, with each beneficiary receiving \u20a6100,000 to enhance their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, executed under the Foundation\u2019s Small Business Empowerment (SBE) scheme, is aimed at supporting financially vulnerable women.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception in 2019, the scheme has empowered hundreds of women across Nigeria, aligning with the Foundation\u2019s mission to combat poverty and uplift underserved communities globally.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Peter Osezua, founder of the Foundation and popularly known as &#8220;Frugal,&#8221; stressed the importance of empowering women to attain financial independence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis initiative targets women who are financially struggling to sustain or grow their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By providing these grants, we aim to strengthen existing ventures and encourage new ones,\u201d Osezua said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Osezua, who is based in London, highlighted the Foundation\u2019s extensive impact since 2017, boasting over two million community engagements globally and more than 500 women empowered in Nigeria alone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Esther Tawasimi, Special Adviser to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman on Women Affairs, praised the initiative, describing it as a unique opportunity to directly uplift market women and petty traders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She reaffirmed AMAC\u2019s dedication to empowering low-income earners through various programs, including training in fashion design, fish farming, and catering.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tawasimi also announced plans by AMAC to empower 300 women and 300 youths in December, with a focus on ICT skills for young girls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmpowering women and youths is a core passion of my chairman, and we remain committed to supporting those with limited financial resources,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This event highlights the increasing efforts of non-governmental organizations and local councils to address the financial challenges faced by vulnerable women, fostering economic growth and self-reliance in local communities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Alexis Uchendu The Frugal Empowerment Foundation has disbursed \u20a610 million in grants to 100 female petty traders in Abuja, with each beneficiary receiving \u20a6100,000 to enhance their businesses. &nbsp;
