{"id":57343,"date":"2024-11-29T10:06:15","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T10:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57343"},"modified":"2024-11-29T10:06:15","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T10:06:15","slug":"nafdac-takes-action-against-counterfeit-malaria-drug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/29\/nafdac-takes-action-against-counterfeit-malaria-drug\/","title":{"rendered":"NAFDAC Takes Action Against Counterfeit Malaria Drug"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Faith Adama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert over counterfeit Combiart Dispersible Tablets (20\/120mg) circulating in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>NAFDAC has instructed its nationwide offices to remove the fake malaria drug, falsely attributed to Strides Arcolab Limited, India.<\/p>\n<p>The counterfeit product was identified during surveillance in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>Laboratory analysis revealed that it contained no active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), rendering it ineffective for treating malaria.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, discrepancies were found in the labeling, including incorrect manufacturing and expiry dates.<\/p>\n<p>Further investigations confirmed that the product\u2019s license had expired, and the NAFDAC registration number on the packaging was invalid.<\/p>\n<p>NAFDAC emphasized the serious health risks posed by counterfeit medicines, which can lead to ineffective treatment or harmful side effects.<\/p>\n<p>The counterfeit product has batch number 7225119, with incorrect NAFDAC registration number A11-0299, and manufacturing dates of June and February 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Its expiry dates are May and June 2026.
