In a move to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal and promote clean energy, the Federal Government has handed over 15 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to major transport unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO).<\/p>\n

The initiative, part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope Clean Energy Transport Scheme, was unveiled during a ceremony in Abuja on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Alkali, described the project as a transformative step towards a more affordable, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese buses symbolize the government\u2019s commitment to empowering citizens while transitioning to a cleaner energy economy.<\/p>\n

“By switching to compressed natural gas, we are reducing carbon emissions, lowering transport costs, and fostering a greener transportation sector,\u201d Alkali stated.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the program\u2019s immediate benefits, the minister announced 40 days of free rides for Abuja residents as part of the rollout, urging transport unions to ensure proper usage and maintenance of the buses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not just about today but about building a sustainable transportation system for future generations.<\/p>\n

“I call on Nigerians to embrace this initiative and work with the government to create a nation where innovation thrives and opportunities abound,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Programme Director of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, echoed Alkali\u2019s sentiments, emphasizing the initiative’s safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.<\/p>\n

Oluwagbemi assured Nigerians that more buses would be deployed in the coming months, further easing transportation challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative is a clear demonstration of the administration\u2019s commitment to alleviating the financial burden on citizens.<\/p>\n

“After the free rides, passengers will continue to enjoy discounted fares as part of President Tinubu\u2019s promise to deliver a better Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Musa Mohammed, National President of RTEAN, lauded the initiative as a lifeline for struggling citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cTransportation connects people to opportunities, education, and essential services.<\/p>\n

“These CNG buses will not only ease the financial strain on families but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The Renewed Hope Clean Energy Transport Scheme aims to redefine Nigeria\u2019s transportation landscape by integrating clean energy solutions while addressing the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.<\/p>\n
