{"id":57201,"date":"2024-11-28T08:31:18","date_gmt":"2024-11-28T08:31:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=57201"},"modified":"2024-11-28T08:31:18","modified_gmt":"2024-11-28T08:31:18","slug":"customs-sells-seized-fuel-to-yola-residents-at-subsidized-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/28\/customs-sells-seized-fuel-to-yola-residents-at-subsidized-prices\/","title":{"rendered":"Customs Sells Seized Fuel to Yola Residents at Subsidized Prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>To ease the burden of subsidy removal, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has begun selling seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to residents of Yola, Adamawa State, at discounted prices.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, directed by Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, seeks to alleviate the rising fuel costs in the region while also ensuring that the proceeds benefit the nation&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists in Yola on Wednesday, Adeniyi confirmed that the sale of the confiscated fuel, which was initially intended for illegal export, will be at a much lower price than what is currently available on the market.<\/p>\n<p>He further clarified that the proceeds from the sale would be deposited into the Federation Account, reinforcing the government&#8217;s commitment to transparent and effective management of seized goods.<\/p>\n<p>Comptroller Hussain Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, commended the program, stating that the seized fuel \u2014 a total of 71,965 liters worth over \u20a681.5 million \u2014 has provided much-needed relief to the residents, who have been grappling with fuel shortages.<\/p>\n<p>The fuel, seized in a series of operations near the Cameroon-Nigeria border, was found in 1,124 jerrycans, 53 drums, and two tankers.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the operation, 14 tankers were intercepted, and 13 have already been handed over to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for further action.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, a suspect involved in the smuggling operation has been arrested and is facing prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative, part of the ongoing effort to combat oil bunkering and smuggling, not only addresses local fuel scarcity but also strengthens the fight against illegal oil trade in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Photo sources Channel TV<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Alexis Uchendu To ease the burden of subsidy removal, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has begun selling seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to residents of Yola, Adamawa State, at discounted prices.
