{"id":56998,"date":"2024-11-26T10:40:31","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=56998"},"modified":"2024-11-26T10:40:31","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:40:31","slug":"apo-mechanic-relocation-fcta-denies-profit-motive-eyes-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/26\/apo-mechanic-relocation-fcta-denies-profit-motive-eyes-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Apo Mechanic Relocation: FCTA Denies Profit Motive, Eyes Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Patrick Idowu and Alexis Uchendu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed that the relocation of Apo Mechanic Village to Wasa District is driven by urban development needs, not revenue generation.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the 10th FCT Executive Council meeting on Monday, Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, emphasized that the move is essential for the construction of a 10-lane Outer Southern Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>While a N300,000 application fee was set to facilitate a seamless transition, Obuah disclosed that plans are underway to review the fee downward to ensure affordability for all affected artisans, traders, and spare part dealers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApo Mechanic Village consists of over 51 associations claiming 51,800 members, but physical enumeration revealed only 15,000 genuine operators,\u201d Obuah noted.<\/p>\n<p>He added that 12,000 individuals have applied and paid the fee so far.<\/p>\n<p>The council has also established a committee to ensure fairness and prevent any trader or artisan from being exploited during the relocation process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This exercise is not about profit but about ensuring equitable development for all,&#8221; Obuah said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patrick Idowu and Alexis Uchendu The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed that the relocation of Apo Mechanic Village to Wasa District is driven by urban development needs, not revenue generation.
