The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) has certified Kwali Central Ward as open defecation-free, marking a major milestone in public health.<\/p>\n
The announcement came during a World Toilet Day event at the Etsu of Kwali\u2019s Palace, themed \u201cToilet for Peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aisha Bakpo, Director of Sanitation in Kwali Area Council, commended the collaborative efforts of RUWASSA and local stakeholders over the past two years.<\/p>\n
She revealed plans to extend awareness campaigns across Kwali\u2019s remaining nine wards, urging residents to construct and use household toilets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have engaged local youth to educate the community on the dangers of open defecation, empowering them economically while improving public health,\u201d Bakpo said.<\/p>\n
Traditional rulers, community leaders, and representatives from UNICEF and CAN pledged to intensify advocacy for improved sanitation practices.<\/p>\n
Suzanne George of UNICEF appealed for collective action, emphasizing the role of traditional leaders in driving change.<\/p>\n
The event featured awards for individuals and groups who contributed to the sanitation campaign, further highlighting Kwali\u2019s commitment to a healthier, cleaner environment.<\/p>\n
