{"id":56859,"date":"2024-11-24T16:14:39","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T16:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=56859"},"modified":"2024-11-24T18:39:46","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T18:39:46","slug":"complete-abandoned-road-pegi-residents-urgent-wike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/24\/complete-abandoned-road-pegi-residents-urgent-wike\/","title":{"rendered":"Complete Abandoned Road, Pegi Residents urge Wike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Patrick Idowu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Residents of Pegi Community in Kuje Area Council have sent a passionate appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to prioritize the completion of the long-abandoned Pegi road project.<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, a large group of community members gathered at the FCT Administration Secretariat to commend the minister for his transformative leadership and to draw attention to their plight.<\/p>\n<p>They praised Wike\u2019s remarkable performance since assuming office but lamented that their community\u2019s key infrastructure needs remain unaddressed.<\/p>\n<p>The residents expressed frustration over the Pegi road project, which they said was initiated by the previous administration but has since been abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, the road\u2019s deplorable condition has turned the area into a haven for kidnappers and criminals, endangering the lives and livelihoods of residents.<\/p>\n<p>Revd Fidelis Oban, chairman of Pegi Community, who spoke on behalf of the demonstrators, appreciated the minister for awarding impactful projects to the Kuje Area Council during his visits.<\/p>\n<p>However, he expressed disappointment that none of these projects extended to Pegi, a community established by the FCT Administration yet plagued by poor infrastructure since residents were relocated there.<\/p>\n<p>Vice Chairman of the community, Deji Oyetunji, echoed these concerns after submitting a letter of appeal to the minister\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the community had sent multiple letters to Wike without receiving a response, prompting them to organize the solidarity walk to press their case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur community has suffered enough due to the lack of a functional road.
