President Bola Tinubu has formally urged the Senate to confirm Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff, citing his leadership, integrity, and extensive military experience.<\/p>\n
In a letter to the Senate on Wednesday, Tinubu highlighted Oluyede\u2019s capacity to lead the Nigerian Army in ensuring national security and stability.<\/p>\n
The move aligns with Section 218(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.<\/p>\n
Oluyede, who has served as Acting Chief of Army Staff since October 30, succeeded the late Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5.<\/p>\n
The President expressed confidence in Oluyede\u2019s ability to sustain the Army\u2019s operational excellence, pointing to his illustrious career spanning over three decades.<\/p>\n
A member of the 39th Regular Course, Oluyede previously served as the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps, based in Jaji, Kaduna.<\/p>\n
Since his commissioning as an officer in 1992, Oluyede has held various command roles, including leadership in the ECOMOG mission in Liberia, Operation Harmony IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI in the North East.<\/p>\n
Recognized with numerous honors, including the Corps Medal of Honour and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award, Oluyede\u2019s record positions him as a strategic choice for leading the Nigerian Army.<\/p>\n
